After previewing and being thoroughly impressed by Cambridge Satchel Company’s A/W15 collection (full post here), my British heritage tour continued as I was off to another presentation by Private White V.C., a very quintessential brand originates from the city where I’m currently based, Manchester.
Quite literally ‘suited and booted’, the models on podiums upon entrance displayed a range of clothing including some classic patterned knitwear, beautiful autumnal chinos and corduroy trousers, seriously sexy footwear and the star of the night… no, not Brutus, the British Bulldog, the outerwear.
At the presentation that night, there were also live weavers and seamsters demonstrating their impressive craft, only on a much smaller scale of what you would see if you were to visit their Manchester factory where all these clothes are made.
I can’t speak for other brands but for this particular collection, practicality and substance is definitely key. Pictured below is the Manchester shearling collar pea coat, equipped with just about everything you’d need to battle against the harsh British weather conditions…
The lapel is specially constructed with a four-piece under collar for additional support when turned up and it also comes with two hand warmer pockets lined in ultra-fine Lancashire needle cord. Whereas the Lowry reversible mac is made with a weatherproof fabric known as “Ventile” developed in, wait for this… Manchester. The same material was also used in survival suits that pilots wore back in World War II and other types of immersion suits so from now on, any rain, hail, sleet or snow will just glide right off your shield… after all, this is a Mancunian brand.
