The other day, I was scrolling, mindlessly browsing on ASOS as I was half watching the EU referendum news on BBC, as you do, and stumbled upon a black leather bum bag. I was surprised that it caught my attention at all because I don’t usually make an effort to look out for them, quite the opposite. However, a force beyond comprehension came over me and somehow I face the morbid thought head on and said… challenge accepted!
Confession time: this isn’t the first bum bag I’ve owned. I’ve had several forced on me by my mum, but before you do your z-snap going ‘Oli’s mummy’s got some style~’, it was only because she was convinced that I would lose everything if I just put them in my pocket. And since I wasn’t old enough to carry a wallet (because there was a legal age for that no one told me about?) she thought my belongings would be safer kept in a bum bag, which is essentially an external pocket.
In all honesty, I used to think they were cool until it was pointed out to me that they were in fact, not cool, which dented my perception on bum bags greatly. Yes, I admit I’ve made a few people my sources of amusement for carrying them but I can’t deny that they are very practical and with a bit of work, I don’t see how they can’t also be aesthetically-pleasing as well…
When I set out on this mission, it was clear I needed some other elements in the outfit to echo the bum bag so it wouldn’t stand out like a sore thumb: apart from the equally black and equally leathery loafers, I also added a little more metallic texture with this cuff bracelet, a gift from a dear friend *shoutout to LiSee!!
As this was my first time styling a bum bag, I sincerely hope you’ve enjoyed the look and the post… if you’re one of those bum bag loathers, sorry… I hope my next outfit will be more up your alley, but do leave me a comment anyway and share with me your bum bag stories, ’cause you know we all got one!
