Now that there’s definitely a chill in the air, it’s time to talk about transitional fashion. For me, the autumn/winter can only mean a number of things: fewer hours of daylight but many more opportunities to play with layers; dialling down the temperature but dialling up the toastiness… all the way up!
In this post, I’m going to show you how I style my trusty black overcoat – a style staple of mine, here’s why…
I love a good ol’ overcoat for a number of reasons : 1. It’s the perfect transitional piece, obvs 2. It can give any casual outfit a classic touch, instantly 3. It’s the perfect length for someone of smaller stature like me. In case you’re wondering, I’m 5’7′, which in Malaysia is a little more than two inches above the male average height – but in the UK, I’m borderline vertically challenged.
An overcoat is a good compromise between a jacket and a floor-length coat for me; because anything that cuts below the knee just accentuates my height… or the lack of it.
Since the black coat is the hero piece, I decided to wear a bright, contrasting white sweatshirt underneath to make it pop even more! To break up the monochrome a bit, I went for these Topman trousers with monochrome sporty side stripes because they add a bit of graphic to the look – which I’m really into!
Finally, I’ve been obsessed with hardware lately so any chance to accessorise with a little something metallic, I’m all for it. Here, I clipped on a belt keyring to jazz everything up. You can just about see it peeking through under the sweatshirt… but it’s the little details that make a big difference in an outfit.
