It’s been a week since my last OOTD and this one seemed looooong overdue… it’s weird how you get so addicted to doing these posts that you feel ill at ease when you don’t get to update as regularly as you like.
This outfit was one I planned for a dayout to Conwy in North Wales, where I lived for several years during my university years. Knowing the weather pattern, I wasn’t going to take any chances, I had to wear something heavy and warm so I decided to make this H&M black coat the centrepiece.
I’ve always been a bit skeptical of asymetry in clothing but lately I’ve grown a bizzare fondness for asymmetrical zip on jackets like this one here:
Similarly, I’m not usually a fan of metal zips either as I’ve been scarred by them once or twice in my lifetime but I was willing to make an exception on this occasion because this coat is simply beautiful!! All of that combined with the faux leather button down collar gives a certain biker-ish quality to it, which is fitting because I’m currently promoting the “Master of the Road” competition Mainline Menswear is holding (read more).
Back to the outfit, in order to complement the coat as much as possible, I kept everything else minimalistic. Underneath it I wore a plain, simple Topman white shirt with a small but very angular collar… sounds silly I know but some collars are just much better shaped. Because the top half was so formal and proper, I balanced out the look with these casual Vintage Skinny jeans and suede brogues, both Topman. Let’s be frank, I’ve never seen myself as this head-to-toe smart or three-piece suit man, though I’d be lying if I said I don’t dream of being that guy once in a while but it’s just not me… I’d take a pair of skin-tight jeans or a slouchy oversized top any day and I really liked how the shoes’ texture mirrored the material of the coat here so yeah, there’s nothing like dressing for your true self!! 😉
